When Kendrick Lamar released his latest album, it took me a while to get through the whole project. The reason being, I couldn't get passed the song, "Father Time". As most of you know, I lost my father in 2021. My last release (Loss At Sea), was me chronicling my poor attempts to navigate my own grief. While those songs were already released earlier this year, I cant stop thinking and writing about my dad. Not only does the loss still hurt, but I am learning that grief changes. I am in a different place than I was when I wrote those songs. In the words of C.S. Lewis, "sorrow is not a state, but a process". "Father Time" is the latest step in that process for me.
If you've lost someone close, I hope this gives words to the things that you are unable to express. If you havent, I hope this song gives perspective towards your friends and co-workers who are dealing with their own grief.
